Claude Pet is a little pet that lives on your Mac desktop. Hover it, click the profile you want, and Claude Code and the Claude desktop app switch to that account.

What it switches

Claude Pet is for people whose personal and work accounts use different emails. Two places switch together, and you can turn either one off.

Claude Code

Swaps the saved login that claude uses. Running sessions keep the old account until you restart them, and the pet reminds you.

Claude desktop app

If it's open, the pet quits it, swaps in the other profile's data and reopens it. A few seconds, and it asks first. Your MCP servers stay shared.

The Mac pet doesn't touch your browser. Claude Pet for Chrome is on the way.

Same email for both accounts? claude.ai and the desktop app already switch from your name in the bottom-left corner, so there Claude Pet only adds Claude Code switching.

How it works

Log in once per account
The normal Claude login, nothing new. Claude Pet keeps a copy of each login on your Mac as a profile: personal, work, any name up to 10 characters.

Hover the pet, pick a profile
One small pet pops out per profile. The active one has a ✓. Click another and the pet swaps that login back in.

Nothing gets lost
Before switching away, the pet saves that profile's latest login, so tokens that refreshed in the meantime stay good. Each app tracks its own profile, so nothing gets mixed up.

A pet for every profile

Five animals, five colours each. Give work a fox and personal an owl, and you'll know which account you're in at a glance. Two profiles can be the same animal in different colours.

When a switch works, owls and penguins flap their wings, and dogs, cats and foxes wag their tails. Click the pet.

Using the pet

Hover

One small pet per profile, with its name. Hover one to see its email, click it to switch. Next to the active one: ♥ support, + add a profile, ⚙︎ settings.

Drag it anywhere

Near the top of the screen the profiles open below it; against a side they open as a column. Pick a size from Tiny to Huge.

Speech bubbles

"✓ Switched to work · Restart running claude sessions". Errors show up there too, in red. Click a bubble to dismiss it.

Settings

Profiles as cards (rename, switch, pick a pet, delete). Pet size and start at login. Switching: which apps, and whether to ask first. About: version and updates.

Install

You need a Mac and Apple's command line tools, which the pet is built with. Don't have them? Run xcode-select --install first.

Works in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app and in claude in Terminal:

setup builds the pet, puts it on your desktop and saves the account you're logged into now as personal. Then add your other account:

/claude-pet:add work

Claude Code and the desktop app sign out. Log in to your work account in each once, and you're done.

Updates itself

When a new version is out, the pet tells you (a bubble, and a red dot on ⚙︎) and updates in one click. Or turn on Install updates automatically under Settings → About. From Terminal: claude-pet self-update. Your profiles and settings are kept.

Uninstall

Right-click the pet → Quit. Delete Claude Pet.app from ~/Applications, ~/Library/Application Support/ClaudePet and ~/.local/bin/claude-pet, then /plugin uninstall claude-pet@geekyowls. Saved logins are in Keychain Access as "ClaudePet cli".

Everything stays on your Mac

No account, no server, no analytics. Claude Pet moves files around on your Mac and sends nothing anywhere. The only thing it fetches is a small version file from GitHub to see if there's an update.

Questions & troubleshooting

Claude Code says "Please run /login", or the login expired.

Log in again with /login. Claude Pet saves the new login the next time you switch away. If a running claude session still shows the old account, exit and start claude again.

macOS asks whether "Claude Pet" may control "Claude".

Click Allow. That's how the pet quits and reopens the desktop app. If you clicked Don't Allow, turn it back on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation → Claude Pet → Claude.

Setup says the command line tools are missing.

Run xcode-select --install, wait for it to finish, then run /claude-pet:setup again.

The desktop app didn't quit.

Close it yourself and switch again. A running chat or Cowork task blocks quitting.

The pet disappeared.

It may have quit: open "Claude Pet" from ~/Applications. If it went off screen, relaunching brings it back into view.

Does it work on Windows or Linux?

Not yet. Claude Pet is macOS only for now; other platforms are planned.

Is it on the Mac App Store?

No. It's installed as a Claude Code plugin straight from GitHub, and it builds itself on your Mac, so you can read every line it runs.

Anything I should know before using it?

Claude Pet works by moving the files where Claude apps keep their logins. If an app update changes where that is, that part may stop working until Claude Pet is updated. And switching the desktop app closes it, so a chat or Cowork task running there stops. The pet asks first (you can turn that off).
